Syd Ralph’s productions have featured at the Savoy Theatre, Covent Garden Festival, the Young Vic, the English National Opera and on a BBC2 documentary filmed inside Wandsworth Prison.

Amongst her professional credits are the following productions: West Side Story (Pimlico Opera), Goodnight Mr Tom (Buxton Opera House), Guys and Dolls (Pimlico Opera), Under Milkwood (Orpheus Theatre), Sirens (Sounds New Festival, Canterbury), Noyes Fludde ( Covent Garden Festival), Company (Manchester Library Theatre), Godspell (Young Vic), Jumpers (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield), Dahl Stew (Britten Sinfonia), One Two (English National Opera), Dido and Aeneas and The Ephesian Matron (Gulbenkian Theatre, Canterbury), Sweet Charity (Gulbenkian Theatre), Barnum (Epsom Playhouse),The Pirates of Penzance (Leatherhead Theatre), A Chorus Line and Sweeney Todd (Sevenoaks Playhouse), Murderous Instincts (Savoy Theatre, London), Annie (Leatherhead Theatre) and the premiere of the opera, Promised Land, (Marlowe Theatre) for the Canterbury Festival.

Syd has worked as a freelance director for the National Youth Music Theatre and was a founding Artistic Associate of Youth Music Theatre:UK, for whom she has co-written and directed “Amy’s Wedding” and the Neil Sedaka musical “Oh! Carol”.

She has directed a variety of student productions for the University of Kent at Canterbury, Bretton Hall, Mountview Academy of Performing Arts and Elmhurst Performing Arts and has taught extensively in performing arts establishments, for government bodies such as Creative Partnerships and for theatre companies such as the Cambridge Arts Theatre.

Most recently she directed the opera, “Kentish Tales”, commissioned for performance at the Theatre Royal, Margate as part of the 2007 Canterbury Festival. She co-wrote the opera with composer/MD Mark Dougherty (Riverdance).

As well as preparing this year’s YMT:UK Belfast production, “The Chosen Room”, written by award-winning playwright, Marie Jones and MD/composer Mark Dougherty, she is currently casting the musical, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”, for performance at the Theatre Royal, Margate and co-writing a new youth musical based on “The Merchant of Venice”.
