After training as an actor at London's Drama Centre, Matthew joined the Soho Theatre's Young Writers' Group.
Since then his work includes Bear Mountain and Back, which was broadcast on BBC 1 and Singing! Dancing! Acting! which was produced at the Soho Theatre and has been translated into French and performed as part of La Foire St Germain in Paris. He has written two shows for solo-performer Linda Marlowe – Believe and Mortal Ladies Possessed – which have toured extensively both in the UK and internationally. The musical, Have A Nice Life, for which he wrote the book with Conor Mitchell, premiered at the New York Musical Theatre Festival last September. This marked Matthew and Conor’s first collaboration. He has just completed the adaptation and translation into English of the performance art piece Life and Death of a Couple of Words, which is going to be touring within France and internationally later this year. His latest play, The Time Step, is to be produced in Brighton and London in the autumn and will incorporate the puppetry of Blind Summit.
Matthew has recently been given a bursary by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation to develop a new play and is currently working on a feature film screenplay and several television projects. |
