A big date looms for the film industry: The International Awards for Cinematic Excellence ('The Ickies'), this year to be held in a top location in London-town. Hundreds of fabulous filmic folk are invited, to quaff champagne, mingle with friends, bitch about enemies, and witness a parade of clips of the best movies of the year, as voted for by a panel of fussy film-buffs (big bribes gratefully received).

In the weeks before the red carpet is rolled out, we drop in on a cast of colourful characters - the stars and their retinues, the film-makers, the critics, the fans and the unrecognised staff of the Big Night, who cater to the ludicrous whims of the famous...and the wannabees.

Who will host the ceremony, and will they make it or break it?
Who will get the YUK Award for worst frock?
What backstage traumas will ruffle feathers (and endanger sanity)?
Who will win the top prizes (and who will win Best Upholstery in a Period Drama)?

The Red Carpet is musical theatre taking on the movies and producing a show with comedy, pathos, visual thrills, musical range and a look at larger-than-life human beings. Brace yourself for a night of Glamour, Gossip and Shattered Egos. It's real life, only more so. Roll camera.....
