Jon trained at Birmingham Conservatoire and has since been working as a musical director and tutor of singing for the theatre and concert stage. He currently holds the posts of Associate Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Chorus, Music Tutor at the Oxford School of Drama and Artistic Director of the South Birmingham Excellence in Cities Consortium Singing Project.
Recent theatrical projects include: Just remember two things... (Queens Theatre, Barnstaple), All change! (The Anvil, Basingstoke), Matthew Miller (Northcott Theatre, Exeter), Merrily we roll along, Fiddler on the Roof, Wonderful Town! (Birmingham Conservatoire), Baiju Bawra (Theatre Royal, Stratford East), Votzek (Birmingham Opera Company).
Projects as animateur include work for: the Royal Northern College of Music, Opera North, Children’s Music Workshop, Birmingham School of Acting, The National Youth Music Theatre, the National Rock and Pop Festival, Music Theatre Wales, the National Foundation for Youth Music, Elmhurst School of Dance and Cheshire Youth Choir.
He is currently developing a new piece for children, ‘Food for thought’, involving commissioned songs by Chris Williams as well as children’s own composition. He has also written the music for ‘Torrington Tales’, a North Devon community play. Both projects will be performed in the summer of 2006.
